Resolution Regarding Offering of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering

WHEREAS, The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Virginia Tech offers bachelor of science degrees in electrical and computer engineering and master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees in electrical engineering, and

WHEREAS, the electronics, computer, and communications industries in the Commonwealth of Virginia need computer engineers with graduate degrees, and

WHEREAS, Old Dominion is the only institution in the Commonwealth offering graduate degrees in computer engineering, and

WHEREAS, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has the capacity within its present cadre of faculty to offer the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the following recommendations be adopted by Council.

That the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department be authorized to offer the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering beginning January 1, 1999.
