Whereas, both the university and the Commonwealth seek opportunities to make policies more flexible and family-friendly to accommodate employee needs, particularly during periods of family illness and crisis; and

Whereas, the Faculty Handbook currently states that: "Sick leave may also be used for family emergencies. Leave for this purpose is restricted to three days per instance and six days during a calendar year for absence necessitated by the serious illness or death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, or any individual residing in the same household; and

Sick leave may also be used for family emergencies. Leave for this purpose is restricted to A TOTAL OF TEN days during a calendar year for absence necessitated by the serious illness or death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, or any individual residing in the same household. USE OF SUCH LEAVE MUST BE RECORDED THROUGH THE REGULAR LEAVE REPORTING SYSTEM SO THAT TOTAL USAGE DURING THE PERIOD CAN BE MONITORED.
